St George-branded vintage Japanese guitar - pristine condition

guitarz.blogspot.com:

This St George guitar, model EJ-2-T, is almost certainly a re-branded Teisco. It has a number of Teisco-like features inlcuding the highly-sought after and now legendary gold foil pickups, the attributes of which were brought to the world's attention by guitarist Ry Cooder.

For a guitar that is going on for 50 years old it appears to be in amazing condition - it's practically as new, and all the parts are there.

The St George brand was created for the St George music stores which had branches in Hollywood and New York in the 1960s, and this guitar would have been original stock that had been kept by the St George family all these years.

  1. I think this guitar is an early exported model by FujiGen with the great technical help of Anthony George in 1961, the former owner of St George's Music Store.

According to a history on guitar manufacturers in Matsumoto including FujiGen (partially based on the books written by Yuichiro Yokouchi, a former president of FujiGen),
while George visited to Japan for searching the new guitar suppliers in 1961, he stayed on FujiGen for several months, advised FujiGen to improve the manufacturing quality of guitars, and finally ordered several guitar models for his shops, including an earliest FujiGen's export brand, "Demian" brand.

Although I don't know the "St George model EJ-2-T" was the earliest model or not,
similar model along with "Ibanez Rhythm Maker" were shown on the photograph of FujiGen office in 1965. And both model were later reissued as Ibanez Jet King JTK1 and JTK2/3/4.

    1. This is my guitar. I am Paul George Jr. I own this guitar. It was given to me by my sister, Cara Lee just before she lost her battle to cancer two years ago. She acquired it from my uncle JR. on my mother's side of the family. He received it from my father, Paul George Sr. in the early 60's. It is new and has never been played. I have owned it for 2 years. I have two other St. George guitars that I have acquired them in Oregon. One is a bass.
