Silvertone 1446

This mid-1960s Silvertone 1446 semi-hollow body guitar is not only a cool looking vintage guitar, but also a higher end model of Silvertone, a music instrument brand of department store chain Sears (I precise this for non-American readers, who have no idea what Sears is). Silvertone guitars were built by different companies, this one was made by Harmony, with stock and exclusive Gibson mini-humbuckers and a Bigsby vibrato, and was a replacement for the previous Espanada model.

This guitar, discontinued in 1967, is currently a well sought after vintage instrument, and not only for fetishist reasons, being still used on stage - a. o. by Chris Isaac.

  1. What cool pick up rings. I mentioned before how much I like those Stencil F holes. I'd love to get a cheap beat up one to work on

  2. Love those pick up rings, always like those stencil F holes. I could have had a beater of a Kay ( IIRC) with those F holes. I'd like one to restore.

  4. I have one of these, bought in 1965 from the Sears return goods department for $50 (bad ground due to faulty cable shielding braid that was ripped apart at the jack). Repaired and properly setup (I use flat wounds) it really does sound sweet and plays well.

  5. How much is it worth? I have one that is in decent condition, it just needs to be cleaned up a bit and it doesn't stay tuned really well. But I've been curious for a long time and nobody can give me an answer.

  6. How much is it worth? And how can you tell what year it is. I have one sitting at home that is in decent condition. It just needs to be cleaned up a bit and I need to figure out how to get it to stay tuned. I don't want to replace anything in case it depletes the value. I've been trying to get an answer for a while but nobody can seem to help me out.

to keep it in tune put .012's on it with a wound G...the scale is slightly short.
