DeArmond S67 Seven String Solid Body Guitar

I'm not a seven string player. Years ago I briefly owned a 7 string Ibanez Acoustic and found that i never used the low B string. I eventually took it off, then sold the guitar.

If I were to decide to try again, i think I've found the guitar I would get. 

This DeArmond S67 is a nicely understated take on an SG style body and to me looks a lot less "metally"or aggressive as many 7 string offerings. 

On a related topic, has anyone here ever tried to string a 7 string with a high A instead of a low B? I suspect much potential for string breakage, but maybe there is something I don't know. What is the thinnest high string you've seen?

Vintage Kay Speed Demon from the early 1960s

This Kay Speed Demon is a great example of less is more as far as styling goes, yet as a 3-pickup 6-knob guitar this likely sounds like a beast.

I particularly love the rotary switch and what looks to be DeArmond speedbump pick ups.

Custom Finished 1958 Harmony Stratotone Mercury H47 just in time for Saint Patrick's Day

I stumbled across this nice old Harmony and thought that it was rather timely. The vintage Harmony guitars can be either pure gold or just alright enough in my experience. I've not had an H47 in my hands so I cannot speak to this model. I do like the 3 way tone selector with a one DeArmond pickup layout. That it's green endears it to me even more than the fact that it is deliberately "blarney-ed" up as much as it is.

DeArmond M55

Strangely it is difficult to find information about this DeArmond M55 - though it's an internet era guitar released in the 2000s! Even though it's been discontinued and DeArmond don't produce guitars anymore, Fender (who owns the DeArmond brand) could have kept a website about these guitars!

Anyway, the design of this guitar is based on a Guild model - DeArmond were just making the pickups and sign - and as you can notice, the original humbucker has been replaced by a Filtertron copy. I like the absence of stoptail and the turn-o-matic / string-through-body combination, it always feels to me that it's the best way to transmit the strings vibration to the body.

Guild S-200 Thunderbird from 1965

The Guild S-200 Thunderbird was the guitar of choice of Muddy Waters and and The Lovin' Spoonful's Zal Yanovsky. It was the inspiration for the 1990s Korean-made DeArmond-branded Jet Star, a guitar which is collectable enough in its own right. Naturally, the original USA-made Guild is, of course, much cooler with its antiquated looking controls, its slablike oblong DeArmond single coil pickups and the built-in stand in the back of the guitar, while the vibrato would not look out of place on one of Italy's idiosyncratic Wandre guitars.

Currently listed on eBay with a Buy It Now price of $3,750.

1966 Martin GT-75

See this Martin GT-75 from 1966 in superb condition for a 45 year old guitar... I'm younger and don't look so fresh (mostly in the morning)!

It has a strange yet sober double cutaway thinline body that looks more Czechoslovakian than American, sinuous S-holes (they don't look like F) and deliciously vintage looking DeArmond Dynasonic pickups with asymmetric covers, a Bigsby trem specially designed for Martin...

The Martin F-65 previously shown on the blog was an earlier model and shares the design and the pickups of the GT-75, that mostly improves the neck and the bridge...

Guild DeArmond M-75T

The seller of this DeArmond M-75T on eBay doesn't tell its production year but from its price it's not a vintage instrument from the first DeArmond guitars era - when in the 60s Guild had some of its models produced in Korea under the DeArmond brand (DeArmond being until then Guild's and many other companies' pickups manufacturer). So it's a recent model by the new DeArmond revived by Fender in the 90s, again producing cheaper Guild models.

But according to the company's philosophy, it's supposed to be a faithful reproduction of the early Guild's guitars, here the Bluesbird, with chambered agathis body, DeArmond 2K pickup, Bigsby-like but specific trem, and blue sparkle finish.
