Eastwood Mandocaster. Beautiful electric mandolin for Tele Tuesday.

I'm a big fan of Eastwood guitars. I've never played one I didn't like, they bring back old models in tribute ( to the dismay of some purists ), and they're Canadian ( yay, national pride and stuff!)

As a mandolin player and a Telecaster fan it's a crime that I have yet to own one of these. I've considered getting an electric mandolin before but it was the Epiphone firebird version. This Eastwood Mandocaster could be the answer to my electromando dreams.

Maybe Santa will hear my call.

The Phantom Acrylic Telecaster by Logical Guitars

I'm neither for or against acrylic guitars. I think that in the right form, they can look awesome. In fact I'm very open to non-wood guitars of all kinds. If anyone has ever played a Rainsong carbon fibre acoustic they'll likely agree with me.

There is a lot to like about The Phantom. It looks to be constructed well, has wilkinson pickups, and sports a bigsby style tremolo. Also, it's a Canadian made guitar. I probably could never get past the large missing portion of the upper body. It would probably make a convenient handle, but I'd be more worried that my girthy mid-section would occupy the missing space.

Not the most attractive onstage look.

Rayco ResNick Resophonic Banjo

As a struggling Dobro and Banjo player the thought of adding a hybrid of the two to my arsenal is both appealing and daunting.
Perhaps this Rayco ResNick Resophonic Banjo designed by Ross Nickerson could be a replacement for the other two.

Less gear to carry is always a good thing, right?

Egan 7 string fanned fret acoustic guitar

I feel this will be a very polarizing post. You will either love this Egan 7-String acoustic or you will hate it. I really want to love it, and even though it's an incredible work by a very talented luthier I find myself on the side of hate.

It's just too much. There is a lot going on here with multiple wood choices, pinstriping, binding, and I've never been a fan of back and side woods not matching.

Check out the video at the link to hear the builder play this odd duck. It honestly sounds quite nice. Yet, it's clearly not for me.

Am I alone here?

Rare Canadian Made Slivatone Resonator Guitar from 1935

When I first saw the ad for this 1925 Silvatone Resonator, I just assumed that it was a misspelling of Silvertone. But wait, was Silvertone around in 1935? Did they make resonators?

As it turns out, Silvatone is the name of guitars built by Charles Edward Brasher in Toronto in the time before WWII. It sounds like there wasn't many made and even fewer that still exist.

If it's as rare as that, it'll likely not last long at $1500.

MF Exclusive Acoustic guitar with interesting bridge/non-bridge

I'd not heard of MF guitars before seeing this interesting specimen from 1994.

Apparently this MF Exclusive Acoustic is made from one piece of wood, not counting the fretboard. I do like the innovative and simple "bridge" and saddle design. Very unique indeed.

Fantastic 1980 Beneteau Grand Auditorium

Marc Beneteau is a famed Canadian luthier. He came up in a time when we were producing such guitar builders as Jean Larrivee, Linda Manzer, Grit Laskin, and Sergie DeJonge, to name a few.

I've had the pleasure of playing 3 different Beneteaus over the years and they were all fantastic. The pictures of the 1989 Beneteau Grand Auditorium do not do it justice as it is likely to be a stunner in real life. Sitka spruce top, mahogany back and sides.

I think I'm in love.

It's also looks to have some wear on it as well, and that makes me so happy. There is something to be said for mint condition instruments I guess, but it usually makes me sad to think that a quality guitar is getting treated more like a painting than the awesome instrument it is.
That is not the case here.

Currently listed at what I would call a very reasonable $2400.

Custom Canadian Hemp Guitar. The Lowryder. ( Insert obligatory Bob Marley joke here )

This is a unique take on sustainability in the guitar world. Hemp can be used for a lot of different products and has a very interesting story within the history of manufacturing and the industry.

This guitar is a good example of when a company can maintain tradition while embracing new ideas and materials.

Though the look of this guitar doesn't rock my world, it is made with quality components and I would suspect that it is quite a player.

Sherwood Hockey Stick Guitar. A guitar made from hockey sticks

I may have been apologetic about my Canadian guitar choices ( saying sorry is kind of our thing ) but I never said I was going to stop.

Some bloody genius has made a guitar from hockey sticks!

This guitar was actually made for a good cause. It will be played by country singer Chad Brownlee on his upcoming tour and auctioned off with the proceeds going to the Tim Horton's Children's Foundation.

I've never heard of Chad Brownlee which likely means that he's a rather popular country artist here. My finger is not on that particular pulse.
Tim Horton's I do know. Tim's is a widely popular and horribly overrated coffee/donut chain named after a legend of Canadian hockey.

The guitar itself looks pretty average, except that it's made from hockey sticks! One pickup, two controls, and four minutes for hooking.......

I'm really starting to like the look of Paul style guitars with maple fretboards, oh, and hockey sticks for a body!
In all honesty, I skate poorly and do not play hockey at all.

It's hard to tell from the pictures provided if the sticks just cap the top of a piece of solid wood or if they layered the sticks. I suspect the former.
Either way, I'd love to try it out.

MXB Travel Guitar by Michaud in awesome orange

I like when somebody comes up with an original design that isn't too wacky or over the top. This MXB travel guitar is a nice take on the travel guitar. And simple. One pickup, one stacked pot, and a wraparound bridge. I also like the 4 and 2 tuner arrangement on this one.
I'd actually like to see what this body shape would look like as a full size guitar. I think it could work.
It's slightly reminiscent of the Burns Jet Sonic and is apparently one of only 47 made so far.
