Suzuki Three S AD213S. My $30 Martin

I picked up this Suzuki Three S when we decided to slightly renovate our living room. The wall mount guitar holders came down and I would be using a floor stand again. With 2 young kids and a blind dog in the house, the thought of my Lowden getting knocked over was not a pleasing one. So I looked for a guitar that i could fix up, play, and not care if it hit the floor every once in a while.

The problem with that now is that this $30 "beater" is now one of my favourite guitars. I had to reattach bridge, glue the fretboard and a brace, and cut a new nut. It's from 1980 according to my research and the solid spruce top has aged sweetly. I added a pickguard and put in a $30 pickup.

Also note the obligatory headstock cigarette burn.

Tele Tuesday - Buy this Smelly Old Effin Guitar

It's likely become apparent to you all that I am a huge Telecaster fan. I love all Teles. From the Fender Standard American to the wackiest take on the design, I can rarely find fault with them. I thought I could share that love with you at least once a week.

That'd be ok, right?

Here we have a great take on the Tele by a company called Effin guitars, not to be confused with the eFin from a few days ago. At $200 Canadian and sporting a solid alder body it would be an awesome entry level guitar, or a perfect platform for some mod madness.

Extra Curvy Super-Fake Telecaster

There is a lot to like about this "Telecaster"

1- It's a nice variation on a very well known theme
2- It's only $95 ( and that's Canadian dollars, so it's almost free )
3- The outdoor pictures can help me forget the foot and a half of snow that fell last night (that I should be out shovelling as i write this)
4- The only text in the Ad from the seller is "Telecaster Copy", so we know that they are honest

What I don't like is the Fender Telecaster logo on the headstock. Why would you consider that this would ever be mistaken for a real Telecaster?

Have some pride, $95 guitar, you're fine just the way you are.

This gleaming Aladdin's cave of vintage woodwork may well be right up your street. For a measly quarter of a million quid ($393,811.75 in funny money), you can adorn your den with someone else's lifetime of GAS. Go on. Hit that BIN button! You won't regret it! There are some interesting guitars there but, for someone asking that kind of dosh, you'd have thought he could have made the effort to take some better pictures.

Chord Tele-style guitar with variable graphics

Now here's an idea that I like a lot. On the surface this Chord T-type would appear to be yet another cheap Telecaster copy. It has a solid alder body, which is nice in such a cheapy, and given that the basic Telecaster design is nearly as simple as you can get, well, how bad can this guitar be? Hardware such as pickups and machine heads can always be upgraded.

What makes this Tele different is the ability to swap and change the graphics. The top of the guitar is covered in a clear plastic plate, all you have to do is slip in one of the 4 supplied graphic sheets under the plate... or else - and this is more interesting - cut out and use your own graphics or artwork. I can really see this appealing to younger players (before they get too conservative and nothing other than a vintage butterscotch or sunburst finish will do... Yawn... Zzzzzz...), and it's a cheap and easy way of having your own unique looking guitar.

Before any of you comment, I realise that this is not an original idea. (Is there such a thing as an original idea any more?) Yes, I believe it was Yamaha that marketed a similar idea several years back. I was always surprised that guitar wasn't more successful.

The only drawback I can see to this system is that you'd need to remove the strings so as to take the plate off and change the graphic, and so if, for example, you play a lot of gigs and wanted a different graphic for each night, that could end up being quite a chore. (And not everyone can afford to put fresh strings on for each and every gig.)

Of course if you already have a Tele, Strat or even Yamaha Pacifica, the other alternative to quick change graphics would be the FaceLift system as developed by Status Quo's Rick Parfitt - that has the advantage of being applied to your existing guitar, but the disadvantage is that you can't make up your own custom design.

The Chord Tele-style guitar with variable graphics is currently on eBay UK with a Buy It Now of £107.

Can't let this go by. In the wake of Gavin's Aria fiesta, here's a real beaut. My second post of the morning - just a quickie.

Not going to say much as this Amazon customer review says it all...

"I first saw this guitar in a guitar magazine advert and thought it looked very cool. As it was an "Artist Signature" model I assumed it would be expensive and forgot about it. Some months later I happened across it on the Amazon site for $159, free shippng and thought it might be a diamond in the rough and ordered it immediately. Was very happy with it out of the box, very well made and a cool looker too! I confess I like this guitar so much I took it to my luthier and had him dress and polish the frets, set up intonation and put high end strings on it adding $60 to my cost. This is now my favorite guitar among several higher end instruments, very easy to play and sounds great through several different amps. Some might question the wisdom of spending $60 to set up a $159 guitar but even without the tweaking she is a sweet ride."

OK, "sweet rides" aside interesting eh? IT IS NOW ON AMAZON.COM at $84.99 NEW! and eBay for $75.99 NEW! That's €54 or £47 (plus shipping)

At the VERY LEAST this could be a nice little base for experimenting. It may even end up being todays Teisco of the future.
