We've already shown a very similar PerlGold archtop guitar a couple of years ago (here) but I don't know if the differences of finish, knobs, headstock and pickguard are just cosmetic or indicate different models. My feeling is that is a later PerlGold model, from the 1970s - the only documentation I found is from the 1950s and show mostly acoustic guitars - flattop and archtop -, also lutes and harp guitars; here we are closer to Musima's style with its 3 pickups and tremolo...

Looks pretty unplayable, but a cool design.
ReplyDeleteIs there a hidden pickup under the fretboard?
ReplyDeleteolder PerlGold jazz schlaggitarren actually had a pickup under the fretboard, maybe that's when they started to have these long fretless board - I doubt that this one has one...
DeleteWhy does this guitar have room for another string and 3 or 4 more frets?
ReplyDeleteI'd love to have this guitar! It looks fantastic. Love the chunky pickup surrounds and slot machine trem arm too. The last few centimetres of the neck being free of frets looks like it ought be a microtonal playground. I suppose, when they built this, they didn't imagine anyone would even to want to venture up there, so why waste good frets if no one's going to use them?

Pretty unplayable? It sure might be playable as soon as the floating bridge is back to its place!
ReplyDeleteI see the PerlGold from just a year ago went for about €200. This one, at €450 is, to me, well over priced. As nice looking as it is, there's a lot to do to make it a player.
