1992 Ibanez 540 P II Alex Skolnick Signature

I'm not a fan of pointy guitars but I do love too-pointy guitars such as this Ibanez 540 P II Alex Skolnick Signature (I have no idea of who Alex Skolnick is, he seems to be renown as a fast guitarist, not an enviable skill in my opinion).

That's really a talent of Japanese guitar designers to be able to take a concept to its limits while always staying on the right side of the edge…

The extra long lower horn is perfect - and the neon pink finish is the killer detail… Still I wonder if I'd play this guitar!

  1. Skolnick is an exquisite jazz player too, worth checking out i'd say ;-)

Also, this guitar reminds me of the more recent RG550XH

  2. Yeah, you need to learn about Skolnick. There aren't many other guitarists who are well known and respected in both thrash metal and jazz worlds.

  3. Skolnick was first known for being in Testament. Their first album 'The Legacy' is still a great thrasher.

  4. I am not a fan of shredder vehicles either but yeah, I would tap this. I do enjoy the challenge of setting these guitars up and am usually astonished by the amount of way and warp in Ibanez necks. I worked on a Steve Vai model where you could bend the neck a centimetre up and down through horizontal with the pressure of one finger.

  5. It's really not particularly pointy. It just has a deep cutaway, which to a guy like me with fat hands and sausage fingers, is a great idea.

  6. I think it's a very cool design, indeed similar to the RG's. I don't know if I'd play a hot pink one but in black these guitars are very sharp looking.

  7. Oh my god! What an elitist and pompous attitude that came through in those words.

"(I have no idea of who Alex Skolnick is, he seems to be renown as a fast guitarist, not an enviable skill in my opinion)."

So you write someone off because they play fast?? Anyone can play fast, it's the notes that are played that make all the difference. Educate yourself!!

And yeah, beautiful guitar!! I have one with a custom lightning airbrush finish. The necks are wider than all other electric 6 string guitars. Not many people know this.

    1. You'll have to take that up with Bertram, as it was he that wrote those words. HOWEVER, as I've said many times before it's all just opinion, we're all entitled to an opinion, and I personally will never apologise for voicing my opinion.

    2. I'm sorry, I don't know who Bertram is, but that is who I was referring to. I just stumbled onto this blog because of that guitar. I shall stumble off now.
