Never give up hope, electric guitars are like faeries, as long as someone believe in them, they are still alive!
Some people are still busy upgrading guitar design - small luthiers, not company designers of course - and sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, but the spirit is still there... The Slashdot model of German luthier Tausch is on the good side, with its reduced Breadwinner-like body and the carve behind the bridge to make room to the bridge tuners...
Also have a look at Tausch's website, in particular to the news, there are some interesting custom models - a strange ergonomic one with unusual curves, double neck Jazzmasters... (sorry, no direct link - check in the German section).
