Blueberry highly carved and inlaid "Floral" electric guitar with mandolin-shape body

While I recognise and even appreciate the sheer amount of skill, craftsmanship and artistry that goes into making a highly decorated guitar like the Blueberry Floral mandolin-shape electric guitar pictured above with its intricately carved and coloured timbers and fretboard inlays depicting flowers and hummingbirds, I really do find the end result far too fussy and over-complicated. It looks too much like a guitar made to be hung on the wall and admired rather than being a guitar made to be played.

Currently listed on eBay with a quite staggering Buy It Now price of US $3,650.

Bauer Guitars "Death Of Decency" hand-carved Telecaster (Aaaarrrggghhh! More skulls!)

Regular readers of Guitarz will likely already know that of all the terrible guitar clichés, my absolute pet hate is skulls on guitars. This hand-carved monstrosity from Bauer Guitars has hundreds of the bloody things, plus tombstones, and even the figure of Death himself with his scythe. I don't know what more I can say about this guitar. It's certainly not my kind of thing despite the artistry and many hours that must have gone into its creation; however I'm sure there are other folks out there who'll go mad for it.

Currently listed on eBay with a Buy It Now price of $2,000 (I guess that's to reflect the time that went into making this piece but I think it's mightily optimistic).

The curse of the carved guitar: hideous Mockingbird copy

O brothers in guitarhood, let's lament on this new manifestation of the evil that creeps if the dark depths of human's psyche... 

In spite of the horrid carving job, you all recognized the unforgettable Mockingbird design - the emblematic B.C. Rich guitar, from a time when they created several alternative designs and not just ugly metal-oriented pointy guitars. 

I often have the feeling that in democracies, people easily misuse their freedom for pointless things and accept being controlled for what really matters. What can one do to a guitar is one of these abuses...

The "It's supposed to be a snake but it looks like something much more unpleasant" Telecaster

"THIS IS THE ONLY ONE IN THE WORLD!" screams the eBay listing for this very ugly hand-carved guitar.

Some of us would respond that such scarcity could be considered to be something in its favour.

The strange carved object on this guitar, at closer inspection, reveals itself to be a rattlesnake, but unfortunately from further away it does resemble something that comes out of the rear end of a dog. I'm sorry, the last thing I want to do on this blog is to get all scatalogical and severely lower the tone, but with a guitar like this it is very hard to avoid saying something along those lines.

The carving doesn't work for me, because if that is supposed to be a snake, then what is it meant to be sitting on? A severely sawn-up Telecaster?

Nice try - someone probably put a great deal of effort into this creation - but design-wise it just does not work.

Currently being offered for sale on eBay UK with a Buy It Now price of a staggering £999. (Cough, splutter, choke...)
