Joe Pass plays the Fender Jaguar

When we think of the Fender Jazzmaster and Jaguar guitars we often associate them with surf and "alternative" rock music, the likes of Sonic Youth, etc. But of course, they were originally conceived by Fender as jazz guitars. Perhaps the styling was too modern to appeal to most jazz players, but as you can see and hear in the above video clip Joe Pass certainly gave the Jaguar a good try out.

  1. It's a Jaguar! It was the only pro-level Fender with the same scale as a Gibson, which might explain why Joe was using it.

    1. Damn, I was hoping no-one noticed that mistake before I changed the blog post.

  2. Actually, Joe was staying at a rehab clinic for addiction when that video was shot (Synannon) The Fender company had donated gear to the rehab, and that's where Joe got the Jaguar. He went back to the hollowbodies when he hit the street.
