guitarz.blogspot.com:
Most TV adverts are extremely irritating, some even invite shouting at the television, whilst others cause me to reach for the TV control and press mute or else select a different channel. However, this ad is quite clever and jolly good fun, even if it is advertising a meat product (I'm a vegetarian). The music is, of course, "Apache" by The Shadows.
For those who don't get it, "Hank Marvin" is cockney rhyming slang for "starving".

It's not the first time our Hank has appeared in an advert. Who else remembers the Red Rock Cider ad with Leslie Nielsen?

Nice ad, but where was Hank?
DeleteAh, I think you mean this one: http://youtu.be/cJktt5LSaJo
DeleteA guitar seller somewhere had a good day. great advert. The things it's advertising are absolutley horrid and I'm not a vegetarian.
ReplyDeleteI love how they're all doing the Hank Marvin "shadows dance" steps!
ReplyDeleteNow it makes sense.
ReplyDeleteSaw this on
http://surfguitar101.com/
and we were amused but befuddled. Not many Cockney surfers I guess.
Now I get it and will share with the surf guitar crowd (who admire the Shads a great deal)
Especially loved the young asian kids where the boy is gentlemen enough to carry a young girl's Marvin-caster home for her! Sure way to score points w/ the ladies.
DeleteSadly, guitar while having as strong a cult following as ever has dropped out of sight w/ pop culture exposure. Almost non-existent really. Glad I wasn't the ad rep trying to sell the client on THIS one. It was a HUGE risk. Where's the Guitar Hero(TM) buttons who TF is Stan Martin..? Huge risk.
